It's tough being a teenager. Not only do you want to carve out your own personality, you're also desperate to belong and be exactly like you're friends. See, it's a confusing time.
Now imagine you're a celebrity as well. That would be pretty tricky, we wager. Not only do you have the usual teenage worries of bad hair, spotty skin and the right amount of black khol to make you look moody enough, you've also got to contend with photographers and journalists documenting you're every move.
And, in case you're wondering, that's WAY worse than your mum just taking a couple of pictures of you before you go out with your friends to an underage disco. At least the whole world won't see those.
But despite all that, here are 20 celebrities as teenagers who managed to make being on the red carpet in their adolescent years look easy, and not a scowl in sight.

Drew Barrymore aged 12, 1987
At the People's Choice Awards, Drew had already racked up a number of films, although her starring role was of course in E.T. when she was just four years old.
Here she looks positively angelic despite the fact that later on she went into a spiral of drug abuse (a habit she's now kicked).
Angelina Jolie aged 13, 1988
Before she won any Oscars of her own, Angelina Jolie already became a dab hand at awards ceremonies, thanks to the fact that her father is renowned actor John Voight.
Here she is at the Oscars in 1988 with her older brother James. We can tell she already had great things ahead of her.
Scarlett Johansson aged 17, 2001
While Scarlett is now known for her roles in brilliant films such as Lost in Translation and her knock-out red carpet gowns, she didn't always have the style bug. Here she is at The Others premiere.
Sarah Jessica Parker aged 15, 1980
Before we knew her as the incredible, fashionable and fabulous Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker was an awkward teenager too! There's hope for us all!
Macaulay Culkin aged 15, 1995
Our standard pose when we were little was to do 'The Kevin', which consisted of smacking our hands over our cheeks and screaming, just like Macaulay's character in Home Alone (we were massive fans). Here he is on the red carpet at a movie premiere.
Christina Ricci aged 15, 1995
We've always had a soft spot in our hearts for Christina Ricci - probably because she could do scary and fiesty like no one else as Wednesday in The Addams Family movies. She made being un-girly cool.
Claire Danes aged 17, 1996
We've loved Claire Danes for such a long time now. From her angsty days in My So-Called Life, to her role as Beth in Little Women, and her starring role as Juliet, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo. And now, of course, we love her in Homeland. Never leave us Claire!
Kiera Knightley aged 16, 2001
Face facts. Kiera Knightley has always been beautiful. She didn't even have that awkward teenage phase like the rest of us. We'd hate her if we didn't love her so much (she's here with Thora Birch).
Leonardo DiCaprio aged 19, 1993
Leo, Leo, Leo. You're still one of our favourites, even now. In fact, especially now. Most child actors who start off big, like Leo did in his Oscar-nominated stint for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, tend to peak early. But not our Leo, he's gone from strength to strength, with brilliant films such as The Wolf of Wall Street. Did we mention we might also be a bit in love with him?
Thora Birch aged 18, 2000
Having secured her first role at the age of six, Thora Birch starred in many of our favourite films such as Hocus Pocus and, much later, in American Beauty.
Kate Hudson aged 19, 1980
OK, so Kate Hudson has always been ridiculously gorgeous. Even when she's wearing just a leather jacket and a pair of jeans. No, of course we're not jealous, why do you ask?
Anna Paquin aged 14, 1996
The True Blood star won an Oscar at the age of 11 for her role in the film The Piano, which made her the second-youngest Academy Award winner in history.
While she didn't do many big roles for a while, it was when she starred as Rogue in the X-Men movie franchise that she returned to world-wide prominence, not to mention her role as Suki Stackhouse in True Blood, where she met her husband Stephen Moyer.
Frances Bean Cobain aged 14, 2006
Frances Bean Cobain, now 21, has lived her life in the glare of the paparazzi partly due to the sad fact that her father Kurt Cobain, lead singer of Nirvana, committed suicide. Her mother, of course, is the formidable Courtney Love.
Mischa Barton aged 16, 2002
Before she shot to stardom as Marissa Cooper in The O.C., Mischa Barton was perhaps well-known for her role as the little girl who plays a ghost in The Sixth Sense. We're loving that cropped jacket.
Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon aged 13, 2009
While most of us would hate the thought of posing with our mothers when we're a teenager, and would have to be forced to get into a family photograph, clearly Madonna's daughter Lourdes doesn't mind. She even takes her fashion leads from her mother - just take a look at those leather gloves.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen aged 16, 2002
Even though the twins' style has evolved over the years, they've always been a fashionable duo. While they might not go for the matchy-matchy look anymore, we can't help but love their coordination here.
Kristen Stewart aged 13, 2003
Even back in the day Kristen Stewart preferred to opt for the pared down look rather than for full-on glamour. Although she is still known for swapping her Louboutins for her Converse the moment she's done with the red carpet.
Melissa Joan Hart aged 14, 1990
Not only did MJH explain everything to us with her role as Clarissa Darling, she also bewitched us with her role as Sabrina in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Ever since then we've been desperate to meet a talking cat. They exist, right? RIGHT?
Emma Watson aged 14, 2004
It can't have been easy growing up as a teenage girl in public but Emma Watson managed it with style and grace. While we're sure she's not happy with her early pics on the red carpet, she's always looked great to us!
Gaby Hoffmann aged 16, 1998
The younger readers might only know Gaby Hoffmann's name from Lena Dunham's Girls, playing Adam's sister. But the older generation will definitely remember Gaby from starring in Now and Then, as the younger version of Demi Moore's Samantha Albertson. Even back in the day she was always seriously cool.
