Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have confirmed their baby son’s name – and explained that it has a little musical history behind it.
Chrissy Teigen’s fans were overjoyed when the move took to Twitter to announce the birth of her and John Legend’s second child, a baby boy.
“Somebody’s here,” she wrote, alongside a string of baby bottle emojis.
And now, just a few days later, Legend has confirmed that he and Teigen have chosen a musical name for their little boy: Miles Theodore Stephens.
“We named our first daughter Luna Simone Stephens and every name we give to our kids I think will have a little bit of musical history to it,” Legend explained to E! on the 2018 Billboard Music Awards red carpet, referencing Nina Simone.
He continued: “Miles of course is the same name as the great Miles Davis and Chrissy really liked the name Theodore, so we put it all together and had Miles Theodore Stephens.
“When he came out and we hung out with him for a little while, we were like, ‘He looks like a Miles.’”
Of course, the name Miles also has a powerful message hidden within it when you trace it back to its Latin roots: according to Nameberry, it means “merciful soldier”.
Watching her husband on the red carpet via her television, Teigen joked: “Wow, didn’t you just have a baby, John?”
Adding that she was shaking her head, she ordered him to “go take care of it!”
This was, of course, clearly in reference to the fact that women, particularly successful women, are asked that question all the time. Men, on the other hand, rarely do - a point which Jennifer Garner famously underlined in 2014, when she revealed that she’s constantly asked about how she manages to balance having a job and a family.
“[Me and my (now ex) husband, Ben Affleck], got home at night and we compared notes,” she said. “And I told him every single person who interviewed me, I mean every single one… asked me, ‘How do you balance work and family?’ and he said the only thing that people asked him repeatedly was about the tits on the Blurred Lines girl [Ben’s co-star in Gone Girl, Emily Ratajkowski].
“As for work-life balance, he said no-one asked him about it that day. As a matter of fact, no-one had ever asked him about it. And we do share the same family. Isn’t it time to kinda change that conversation?”
