Angelina Jolie recently filed for divorce from Brad Pitt – and, as expected, his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston was immediately dragged into the media speculation surrounding their split.

The Friends star, who was married to Pitt for five years before they divorced in 2005, has had everything from her facial expression to her fashion choices questioned since the split.

One tabloid even went so far as to claim that Aniston's decision to wear an 'evil eye' necklace was a "message" to Brangelina.

And now her former co-star, Courteney Cox, has spoken out.

When asked about how Aniston was coping with the drama surrounding Pitt and Jolie’s divorce announcement, Cox insisted that it was time the press take the spotlight off of her friend.

“I feel like we’re exacerbating it by even talking about it,” the 52-year-old told Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s not about her.”

Her words definitely ring true; after all, it’s been over a decade since Aniston and Pitt divorced themselves – and the actress is now happily remarried to Justin Theroux.

Who, incidentally, has also slammed the media’s obsession with his wife.

“There’s an endless appetite for trash, apparently, though everyone would say that they don’t have that appetite,” he told Business Insider.

“It’s shocking how much bandwidth things can take up when there are far more important things going on in the world.”

Theroux added that his heart went out to Brangelina's children, saying: “As a child of divorce, all I can say is that’s terrible news for those children, and that’s all you can really say.

“It’s boring to sort of comment on anything else.”

Theroux and Aniston, who tied the knot in a secret ceremony in August 2015, after four years of dating, have refused to let their own marriage be shaken by tabloid rumours.

And the Girl On The Train actor recently revealed their simple formula for a happy marriage.

He told Entertainment Tonight: "We appreciate each other's sense of humour, we respect one another and we get along,” he said.

"I know it sounds simple - but it's true!"

Meanwhile Jolie has requested physical custody of her and Pitt's six children - Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Her attorney released a statement that read: "Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family.

"She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

Pitt, meanwhile, has said that he is "saddened" by the breakdown of his marriage, and has asked the press to give his children the space they deserve.
