We’ve only just got over our excitement about the Friends cast reunion but today it’s been confirmed that 90s hit Cruel Intentions is set for a revival. The people behind the original film, writer-director Roger Kumble and producer Neal H. Moritz, have penned a script for a new TV pilot, set 15 years after the events of the original movie.

Sadly, Ryan Phillippe’s Sebastian doesn’t come back from the dead; instead it will focus on the Bash Casey, his son with Annette (Reese Witherspoon).

The still-evil Kathryn Merteuil, played in the original movie by Sarah Michelle Gellar, also features and, according to a synopsis for the show on Deadline, she “vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove.”

Sebastian’s diary is also back and causing chaos again.

“Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.”

There’s no news on whether any of the original cast will return for the pilot or who will play Bash Casey.

The spin-off will focus on Bash Casey, the son of Annette and Sebastian

Just in case you've forgotten, the plot of the 1999 teen hit, which was based on the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, sees Sebastian Valmont enter a bet with his step-sister Kathryn to seduce their headmaster’s daughter, Annette. Sebastian doesn’t bank on falling in love with her which is exactly what happens.

The movie grossed $75 million (£51million), seven times what it cost to make, and kick-started the career of its stars.
