Dakota Johnson, 26, might have found fame with her role in Fifty Shades of Grey but even she admits to being lonely sometimes.

The actress, who appeared on the BAFTAs red carpet last night, told The Telegraph: “My life has changed dramatically. But there are times I feel lonely and then I just watch movies and read books and I’m happy I have the time to do those things. I cherish my solitude.”

Johnson is single after splitting from rock singer Matt Hitt, 28, last year and says her role as Anastasia Steele does sometimes make dating difficult. “Some people think this is something I’m interested in in my private life, which is not the case,” she says firmly.

“I’m an actor - I pretend. But I guess it’s something that happens with a lot of actors: people think that in real life they are like the characters they play.”

The actress is currently appearing in How To Be Single, a film about a girl who ends a long-term relationship to move to New York.

“I think it’s important for young women, especially now, to know that it’s OK to explore the world and yourself without the pressures of other people’s opinion on you,” she admitted.

And it seems film stars have the same problem as the rest of us when it comes to meeting Mr Right. “I have my friends that I’ve been friends with forever and it’s kind of hard meeting new people,” she said.

She’s ruled out Tinder too. “I can’t say that I have ever been tempted. I’ve heard stories of people meeting the loves of their lives online and that’s great. But it freaks me out.”
