Whether you know him as WWE’s The Rock, Moana’s Maui, Baywatch’s Mitch Buchannon or, y’know, the Scorpion King from The Mummy Returns, there’s no denying that Dwayne Johnson has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars.
So it makes perfect sense that the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor was honoured with the 2,624th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week.
Joined by his partner Lauren Hashian and their almost-2-year-old daughter Jasmine, Dwayne Johnson made sure to honour his family during his emotional acceptance speech.
“When I was 15 years old, I was evicted, we were evicted out of our one bedroom apartment in Honolulu, Hawaii,” he told the crowd.
“We were forced to leave the island, and here we are today.”
Directing his attention to Jasmine and his 16-year-old daughter, Simone, who was unable to attend the event, Johnson continued: “I heard a quote when I was 15, and I thought, if I’m ever in a position one day, I’d like to be able to live this quote, ‘It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.’”
Then, picking Jasmine up and holding her in his arms, Johnson added: “I’m going to show you what it all means.
“The hard work, the work you put in with your own two hands… it all comes down to this. It all comes down to your family, and working hard to love and protect and do everything you can to make your family and the ones you love, their lives better.”
Johnson recently confirmed that Hashian is pregnant and that they are expecting another little girl – something which he couldn’t be happier about.
“Big daddy is completely surrounded by beautiful oestrogen and loving, powerful female mana,” he shared on Instagram.
“All girls. One dude. And a boy dog. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
While, of course, Johnson has many reasons to be proud of his family, he was truly over-the-moon when his teenage teenage daughter was recently confirmed as the 2018 Golden Globe Ambassador.
Speaking to E! Online about Simone’s success, the actor said: “We have such a high-quality relationship… she continues to teach me, and I am incredibly proud of her.”
As for any tips for his daughter’s duties at the 2018 Globes, the star said he’s told the teen: “I want you to be present and in the moment. That’s important and enjoy it because things happen so quickly. We’re on this treadmill of life where there is no stop button.
“Just be present in the moment, have fun and also know you are carrying the torch for our industry that we are making our living in and you are also carrying the torch for our family.”
Wise words indeed.
