While on the campaign trail, the senator was posed a hypothetical question about conservatives who may not agree with marriage equality. Her response could not be more perfect.
Elizabeth Warren has no time for homophobic questions.
The senator is currently on the campaign trail as part of her bid to secure the Democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential race. Part of the purpose of that campaign trail is to take questions from constituents, many of whom want to interrogate their potential nominees about their positions on the issues that matter to them.
One of the key issues for Warren is LGBTQ rights, and to that end she held a televised forum on the subject with CNN this week. During the event, Warren was posed a hypothetical question.
How would she respond to someone who, on the campaign trail, approached her and said: “Senator, I’m old-fashioned and my faith teaches me that marriage is between one man and one woman.”
Warren’s response? “Well, I’m going to assume it’s a guy who said that. And I’m going to say, then just marry one woman. I’m cool with that.”
The audience at the event roared with laughter. Warren paused, basking in the response. And then – with a big grin on her face and a twinkle in her eye – she added: “Assuming you can find one.”
Since the symposium aired on CNN last night the clip of Warren’s hilarious clapback has gone viral.
“Don’t mess with Elizabeth Warren,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“It’s weird how little this gets said considering how important it is but: Elizabeth Warren is very good at running for President,” added another.
“Elizabeth Warren has better comedic timing than 92.7% of my friends in comedy. There. I said it,” another tweet read.
Warren is becoming known for her quips.
She effortlessly shut down a bizarre and baseless right-wing smear campaign that claimed that she was having an affair with a 25-year-old ex-Marine. (She wasn’t. And he isn’t even a Marine. This isn’t the sex scandal you’re looking for. Move along.) And she had the perfect response to a reporter who asked her what she would be wearing at one of the Democratic debates.
Her comebacks are becoming legendary. We pity the fool who tries to get one over her in the near future.
