It’s safe to say that Ellen DeGeneres has a lot to be thankful for this year.

Just a few days ago, President Barack Obama awarded DeGeneres with America’s highest civilian honour – praising her bravery, warmth, kindness, and work for the LGBTQ community as he tied one of his last Medals of Freedom around her neck. And the Emmy winner has, without a doubt, one of the most successful talk shows in the world; she is now watched by 15 million people each week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

However, while her career is very important to her, DeGeneres made sure to pay homage to her wonderful personal life over Thanksgiving weekend – and, in particular, her wife of eight years, Portia de Rossi.

Over the past few months, the couple have – once again – been hit by baseless divorce rumours, with many tabloids concocting false stories about their impending breakup.

However, naturally, things could not be further from the truth. And, while DeGeneres did not directly address the rumours, she did put them to bed when she shared a sweet tribute to de Rossi on Instagram.

Snapping a candid photo of the Arrested Development star, cuddled up with their dogs, DeGeneres wrote: “Happy Thanksgiving! Here’s a photo of some of the things I’m most thankful for.”

Just last month, DeGeneres opened up to People about her marriage, with the 58-year-old insisting that she never takes her relationship with de Rossi for granted.

She told them: “Portia and I constantly say to each other, ‘We are so lucky.’ Sometimes it’s lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there.

“I’ve gotten to a place where I really am just settled. Really. I know that I’m not going anywhere. She’s not going anywhere. I’m not saying the relationship took a while; I’m saying in my life, it took a while to find this.”

DeGeneres added: “I’m grateful for everything. I’m grateful for my health, and I’m so grateful for the love in my life, because not everybody finds that. Not everybody finds that best friend.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi have been forced to deal with ridiculous split speculation from the tabloids for years. And, while the couple usually prefer to ignore them, the Finding Dory star felt compelled to respond to them in 2015.

Speaking to Howard Stern at the time, she said: “We don’t know anything about it until somebody tells us.

“I don’t read the tabloids, and I don’t have a publicist. I don’t understand why they do this. We’re kind of flattered because for a while no one cared about us and we thought ‘Oh, lesbians aren’t worthy of tabloid stories’ so now we’re kind of flattered that they care about us.”

"The only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more"

In 2013, DeGeneres also took some time out of her talk show to joke: “The other day I was at the hair salon getting these extensions put in.

“And there were tabloids all over the hair salon... and on one of them, Portia and I were in the top right-hand corner. And I thought, ‘Oh that’s so sweet, they’re honouring us.’ But then I read the headline underneath. And it said, ‘Ellen and Portia Marriage Crumbles.’

“And I was like, ‘Oh, what happened? They seemed so happy.’ And then I was like, ‘Wait, I’m Ellen.’ And I should know if that was happening.”

The talk show host continued: “It’s so ridiculous to me. There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it. I’m very happily married. In fact, the only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more. That is all. It really is true.

“And we argue if we’d let a kangaroo carry us around in its pouch for a year. I would. She wouldn’t. She’ll change her mind. Who wouldn’t want to be in the pouch of a kangaroo for a year? Hopping around. And she’s like ‘no’ but anyway.”

She added that, if any major changes occur in her private life, she would “announce it here first”.

DeGeneres and de Rossi married in August 2008 after dating for four years. Going public with the news at the time, the talk show host called herself “the luckiest girl in the world.”
