Eva Longoria has shared a powerful message about raising her unborn son to be respectful and appreciative of women.

Eva Longoria – who is expecting her first child with her husband, José ‘Pepe’ Bastón – recently revealed that she is expecting a baby boy. And, naturally, the Desperate Housewives star can’t wait to meet her unborn son and get to work on teaching him the importance of applauding and honouring feminism.

Taking to Instagram, Longoria wrote: “We have this wonderful wave of future feminists coming into this world with a different view of what this global community we live in should look like.

“I’m so excited that I’m having a boy because I think the world needs more good men. This boy, my son, will be surrounded by very strong, educated, powerful women and I think it’s important that he sees those types of role models in his life so he knows how to support it, how to applaud it and how to honour it.”

She added: “This #WomensDay I’d like to thank the future generations of women (and men!) who will pick up the baton and carry on the fight for gender equality.”

Longoria, in a recent interview with People Chica, has said that she feels empowered being pregnant – and intends to work right up until her due date.

The actress – who shares credits with Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez in the upcoming comedy Overboard (due out in April) – explained: “Having my life now with my son and living it with him is great.

“When I’m directing, he is with me; at the Golden Globes, he is with me. [It] makes me very happy… [and] my husband is amazed that I’ll keep working probably until the last days [of pregnancy].”

Longoria previously revealed she wants to give her baby a ‘traditional’ name that will follow the traditions of her and her husband’s Mexican heritage.

“We are Mexican, so we’re very traditional,” she said.

“It’ll be a long name.”

However, while this is the actress’ first biological child, Longoria has made the very valid point that she is already a stepmother to José’s children Natalia, 21, and 13-year-old twins Mariana and Jose.

“I am a stepmom to three amazing kids, and I’ve had my hands full, and they are amazing and wonderful,” she said.

“It’s been a lot of fun, a lot of fun being a stepmom.”
