Lady Gaga has won a lawsuit against an animated spoof of herself called Lady Goo Goo, who features on YouTube for children's social network game the Moshi Monsters.
Gaga took action after claiming her fans may confuse her with the diaper-wearing cartoon figure, who became a viral sensation on YouTube this summer with the release of music video The Moshi Dance (bel0w). The character also performs a send-up of the singer's Billboard 100 hit Paparazzi, titled Peppy-razzi.
Moshi Monsters' parent company Mind Candy intended to release the tracks on iTunes, but the 10 October court ruling means that is now banned from being played on YouTube or offered for sale. But Lady Goo Goo could still appear in the Moshi Monsters game without the song, the judge ruled.
The injunction bans the "promoting, advertising, selling, distributing or otherwise making available to the public The Moshi Dance or any musical work or video that purports to be performed by a character by the name of Lady Goo Goo."
Gaga's lawyers submitted evidence that some of her fans - popularly referred to as "Little Monsters" - assumed there was an official connection between her and Moshi Monsters.
The virtual game has attracted more than 50 million young users since launching in 2008.
Michael Acton Smith, founder and chief executive of Mind Candy, told the Guardian the court's decision was a "huge disappointment."
"The shame is that millions of kids fell in love with Lady Goo Goo's debut single on YouTube and now won't be able to enjoy her musical exploits. It was all done in the name of fun and we would have thought that Lady Gaga could have seen the humour behind this parody," he added.
