Their romance was ill-fated in HBO’s Game of Thrones, but Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s real-life love story has proven to be far happier than Jon Snow and Ygritte’s.
After a huge amount of speculation, the duo have confirmed that they are, indeed, engaged to be married. And they did it in the most old-school way possible: via an announcement in The Times newspaper.
Listed in the ‘Forthcoming Marriages’ section, the announcement read simply: “The engagement is announced between Kit, youngest son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.”
It’s not quite a message by raven – but it’s definitely gotten GoT fans excited on social media.

Well, most of them are:
The couple met on the set of the HBO show in 2012, where their characters – the stalwart Jon Snow and brave wildling, Ygritte – embarked on a doomed and ill-fated love affair.
You know, the kind which ended with her trying to kill him, being shot with an arrow herself, and dying in his arms after spitting out the words, “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”
Harington told L'Uomo Vogue last year it was “easy” to fall in love with Leslie.
He said his best ever memory of the show were the three weeks in Iceland when they filmed the second season in 2012.
“Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” said Harington.
“If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”
One person who will no doubt be extra pleased to hear of the engagement is none other than Nicole Kidman, who famously pressured Harington into popping the question when they appeared on The Late Late Show earlier this year.
“Are you going to get married or…?” Kidman asked after Harington discussed moving in with Leslie. The Jon Snow actor didn’t answer, instead joking that he was being put on the spot by Kidman.
He added, “Step by step, step by step.”
But Kidman wouldn’t let him off the hook: “I’m just all about getting engaged and then living together,” she said.
