Sansa Stark has celebrated two ill-fated weddings in HBO’s Game of Thrones – both of which she was forced into against her will. In the real world, however, Sophie Turner has found happiness with her musician boyfriend, Joe Jonas – and, over the weekend, the pair confirmed that they are engaged.
And they did it in perfect sync, too.
The couple went public with their news using corresponding Instagram posts on Sunday 15 October. Both Turner and Jonas shared an image of the Game of Thrones star with her hand on top of the singer’s, showing off her diamond engagement ring against their black clothes.
“I said yes,” Turner captioned the photo. Meanwhile, Jonas wrote: “She said yes.”
Jonas and Turner have been dating since last November, after they were spotted together at a concert in the Netherlands.
However, despite eventually confirming the relationship on Instagram, Turner has made a point of keeping her and Jonas’ romance “very private” – and for good reason.
“I’m in a relationship, but it’s a very private relationship,” Turner told the Sunday Times.
And, during a recent interview with Marie Claire, the actor went on to add said that being part of a celebrity couple can make you “feel like you're living in a fishbowl”.
“It's frustrating [that] it's the most mundane things that make the news—how boring!” she said, before going on to explain that she doesn't even need to be out with Jonas to receive unwanted attention.
“I find it really rude, and I will be rude back,” she said, referring to fans who try to secretly take photos of her. “It's such an invasion of privacy. I could be out with my mum on her birthday and I will ask them to delete it. I would much rather them come up and ask for a photo. I will probably be fine with it… unless I look s**t.”
However, while ‘Jophie’ fans are incredibly excited for Turner and Jonas’ upcoming nuptials, Game of Thrones fans needn’t worry: Maisie Williams – aka Turner’s BFF, on-screen sister and co-star – is sure to be honoured during the ceremony, too.
After all, Turner did admit that she prefers being part of ‘Mophie’ to ‘Jophie’!
“I prefer ‘Mophie,’” she explained. “What's that thing they say? Relationships come and go but friendship is always there.”
