We know and love her as highly strung Marnie in Lena Dunham’s hit HBO show, Girls, so seeing Allison Williams in her wedding gown last month was a world away from the dazed and confused Brooklynite with which we've come to associate her.
On 19 September, Williams married her long-term boyfriend, CollegeHumor founder Ricky Van Veen, 34, in a very private and exclusive ceremony in Wyoming.
Although the guest list included the likes of Hollywood heavyweight, Tom Hanks (who officiated the couple), design icon, Diane Von Furstenberg and rock royalty, Bruce Springsteen, Williams, 27, told Page Six that the best part of the wedding was how private it was.
“There was no sense of needing to put on a certain façade,” she says.
“[I wanted it] to be really intimate and feel like an experience we shared as a family with our close friends … It was exactly that.”
The couple tied the knot at the classically American Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming.
Williams kept the details of the event quiet from guests (who also included Katy Perry, John Mayer, and, it goes without saying, Girls co-stars Lena Dunham, Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke), and even set up a decoy site to deter paparazzi.
After the big day, the newlyweds flew off to the Amalfi Coast for their “heavenly” honeymoon.
Speaking about her choice of dress, a bespoke gown designed by Oscar de la Renta Creative Director, Peter Copping, Williams revealed she chose Copping because:
“He grew up around horses and ranches,” which meant that he “immediately understood the aesthetic I was going to be in.”
The actor did have one request about the dress, though, saying:
"I wanted sleeves because I'm always cold."
The final result was a full-skirted traditional gown with a delicate lace overlay and sheer sleeves, recalling the Alexander McQueen gown the Duchess of Cambridge wore in 2011.
The actor shared some snaps of her special day on Instagram and it certainly looks perfect.
“Who didn’t look at Kate Middleton and Pippa’s dresses — Kate’s in particular, because it was actually bridal — and think, Well, that’s just perfection!”
Girls returns to HBO on 21 Feburary 2016.
