It is a fact of life that everybody loves Helen Mirren. The successful Hollywood actor is warm, funny, outrageously talented (she has a bevy of awards under her belt), and a loud and proud feminist – and a plethora of celebrities have waxed lyrical about her awesomeness in the past.

Which is why Ryan Reynolds should be positively over-the-moon that Mirren has penned a paean all about how much she loves him.

“Can the name be real?” the 71-year-old begins her piece for TIME’s annual 100 issue, in which Reynolds has been honoured for his role in Deadpool. “It is such a perfect movie-star name, like something that could be on a forties marquee.”

Then, after taking a moment to reflect on her Woman in Gold co-star’s “general hunkiness”, Mirren goes on to explain that there is far more to Reynolds than his unquestionably pretty face.

“Ryan is also rumpled, kind, committed and generous, especially to women,” she writes. “He likes them in the most simple, direct, unadorned way: for their humanity. (How very appropriate that he is the father of two girls.)”

Mirren adds that Reynolds “has a natural wit, which he often turns on himself, and he can balance his private and public life with great dexterity. He is open and generous, but never inappropriate.

“I suspect this is part of what makes him such an appealing performer.”

The actor concludes by praising Reynolds’ “singular commitment, energy, and imagination,” before adding that she misses hanging out with him on a regular basis.

“I loved Deadpool,” says Mirren, “but I also miss spending time with the actor who played him – his warm, intelligent, inquisitive brown eyes, his readiness to laugh...

“Sigh.”

Responding to Mirren’s words in his typically hilarious manner, Reynolds took to Twitter to write: “What in the…?”

He added: “Thanks #Time100 – and Helen Mirren for the kindest words.”

And, in a nod to her comments about his “perfect” moniker, Reynolds wrote: “My real name is Summershank Melon-Wad.”

Of course, it goes without saying that Reynolds is every bit as much of a fan of Mirren as she is of him.

In fact, back in 2015, the 40-year-old spoke candidly about his easy chemistry with the star (whom he described as a “living, breathing, cussing legend”).

“She’s the best,” he said. “Everyone that orbits her atmosphere is a little breathless.”

And, in a separate interview, Reynolds added that he and Mirren got on “like fire and a dry house”.

“It was evident [we were going to become firm friends] from the get-go,” he said.
