In celebration of the new royal baby boy, we take a look at some of the most iconic and cutest royal baby photos in history.

The art of royal baby photography is a tricky one. Make it too formal and you risk looking unapproachable and outdated. Go too far the other way and you may break centuries-old royal protocol.

Luckily for Prince George and Princess Charlotte, though, their mum and dad seem to be a dab hand at getting cute pictures of their offspring just right. We can’t help but coo uncontrollably every time new photos are released of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s little family, which has just grown by another member.

As we wait with bated breath for more news about the arrival of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child, we look back at some of the family’s loveliest photo opportunities yet, and take a trip down memory lane at some of the royals who have come before them.

From an austere photograph of a curly-haired future Edward VIII with Queen Victoria in 1896 to a candid snap of Queen Elizabeth II’s great-granddaughter Mia Phillips cuddling her mum, come see how royal baby photography has evolved over the years, capturing the royal family at their most endearing…
