“Instagram is pathetic.” This fashion editor reveals what she really thinks about social media

Social media is really getting a bad rap of late, from blogger, Essena O’Neill saying it lowers self-esteem, to Kate Winslet saying it’s not allowed in her house.

Today, creative director of American Vogue and break-out star of The September Issue, Grace Coddington, has revealed that she “hates” Instagram.

The comments might come as a surprise to many, coming from a woman who has forged a successful career through designing and styling photographs.

Speaking to American Vogue, Coddington says:

“I hate Instagram, actually.”

“I think it really interferes with people’s lives and things and it’s pathetic how everyone's photographing everything they're eating all the time,” she says.

“Everybody uses it instead of reading the newspapers these days. People want you to know that they're holidaying in Greece. I mean, really.”

The 74-year-old former model joined Instagram a year ago, and got off to a controversial start when the photo-sharing network shut down her account after she posted her first image (top image) claiming it ‘breached their nudity policy.’

“The first one I posted, my whole account got taken down because I was naked, which was ironic: It's a goddamn cartoon!”

She has since only posted 28 images. 

Coddington is currently promoting the reissue of her book Grace: Thirty Years of Fashion at Vogue
