Jennifer Lawrence was noticeably absent at the 2018 Golden Globes – but, as it turns out, she had a very good reason not to attend. And that reason was Emma Stone.
Speaking in a Facebook video, which E! confirms was filmed by Emma Stone herself, Jennifer Lawrence reveals that she actually had every intention of heading to the awards show after-parties. So much so that she had booked in a team of hair and make-up artists to visit her at her house and booked a car, which was already on its way to pick her up.
But all that changed when she received a phone call.
Stone, who attended the ceremony as a Best Actress Nominee, doesn’t appear on camera, but can be heard quietly asking her friend: “Hi, what happened tonight?”
Lawrence, smiling down at the table, declares: “Well, you had told me you wanted me to be your date to the after-parties so I, you know, got us tickets to some after parties, booked a car, and I was halfway through glam when you told me you didn’t wanna go.
“You just wanted to come over to my house.”
Finally looking up to face the camera with a single smoky eye and contour still in place, Lawrence deadpans: “So I sent my hair and makeup team home and now this is what I look like.”
Stone and Lawrence previously told Vanity Fair that they got each other’s numbers from mutual co-star Woody Harrelson.
However, in a recent interview with W magazine, the duo revealed that things got real when they finally decided to meet in person.
“Jennifer Lawrence and I both had the same stalker, John the Orchestra Guy,” Stone explained.
“He would text us both and say things like ‘I’m running late on my way to the soundstage. Can you warm up the orchestra for me? Text me back and let me know you got this.’ He wasn’t really a stalker. He must have worked at a studio or something because he had a lot of people’s numbers.”
Eventually, Lawrence and Stone decided to meet up after a few years of dealing with John the Orchestra guy – although, naturally, they were both more than a little suspicious about the other.
“Jen and I texted for a year before we actually met. As she was driving to my house, she thought, Oh, my God, what if it’s John the Orchestra Guy? And I thought, Oh, my God, what if it’s John the Orchestra Guy?” Stone said.
“So Jen calls me and says, ‘I just want to make sure you’re not John the Orchestra Guy.’ I wasn’t. And we met. It’s our adorable love story.”
Since then, the duo have pretty much been inseparable – so much so that Lawrence will bail on a series of glitzy A-lister parties for a night in with her BFF. Now that’s true friendship, isn’t it?
