Mel B described Jessie J as “overrated” in a recent interview. J has no time for the comment, and neither do we…
Singer Jessie J has had to put up with a lot of crap in recent years.
She is an award-winning, globally recognised singer and songwriter, with five successful albums under her belt. She has sold over 20 million singles and 3 million albums worldwide. And, after appearing as a mentor and judge on two seasons of The Voice, she’s also carved a career in TV.
And yet, it seems that her professional and personal lives are always under scrutiny.
After it was revealed that she has been dating actor Channing Tatum since last year, J has been trolled online ever since, with many internet users constantly comparing her to Tatum’s ex, Jenna Dewon. “What a weird pairing!” wrote one charming fan. “Channing Tatum, you can do better than this,” added another pleasant soul.
J and Tatum do absolutely nothing to invite this speculation over their relationship. In fact, J recently had to shut down questions about her private life in an interview with This Morning presenter Ben Shephard. “I think let’s stay focused on The Voice Kids,” J interjected as Shepard tried to ask her about Tatum.
And it didn’t stop there…
In July, Spice Girl Melanie Brown (Mel B) told Heart Radio listeners that she thinks J is the most overrated singer out there. Nice.
But now, J has responded in the best possible way, by showing Brown exactly how underrated she is.
J shared a video of an acoustic performance during rehearsals earlier this week, which shows off her flawlessly powerful vocals.
She captioned the video: “‘Overrated’ *Mel B voice*”
It was a masterclass in owning your talents and not letting anybody rain on your parade.
“Lol think she got mistaken, more like underrated,” commented one fan.
“No one should be underrated! Everyone has their own perspectives on their career and no one should be judged for what they are doing ALWAYS BE TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE,” added another.
“Definitely not given the credit you deserve in the music industry!” wrote a third.
J recently took a break from Instagram, explaining to fans:
“For the record I’m OK.
“Happy, healthy and sane. People often presume to come off Instagram you are going through some shit. Lol. Actually it’s the opposite. Im in such a good place that I want to respect and nurture that looking up and not looking down.
“Instagram is fun, but it isn’t real life.
“I’m off to write a new album.
“Telling just the people who support me. Love you all. Be back soon. Refreshed and refuelled and ad-libbing OBVIOUSLY. (Also try and instagram cleanse every once in a while - it can do you no harm).”
It sounds like J has a healthy approach to using social media and facing criticism. She knows herself and is proud of her undeniable talent.
So, it’s unlikely that any “overrated” comments are going to get her down.
