Kate Beckinsale’s Instagram feed is a thing of beauty; the actor and Oxford graduate keeps it filled to the brim with daily outfit and lifestyle snaps, as well as plenty of cute pet photos.
There is also, as her followers will already know, a plethora of candid pictures of herself hanging out with friends and family.
Earlier this week, for example, the Underworld star shared a snap of herself enjoying a Hollywood dinner with her BFFs.
Plenty of fans commented on the image, with many admitting that they wished they could have been sat at that star-studded table themselves.
One of Beckinsale’s followers, however, took one look at the image and assumed that the smiling brunette sat to Beckinsale’s right was her daughter.
“That Sarah is your daughter?” they asked. “She’s pretty like you, Kate Beckinsale.”
All in all, it was a very sweet and well-meaning message.
Unfortunately for the fan, however, Beckinsale’s daughter is called Lily – and the Sarah featured in the Instagram snap is, in fact, Sarah Silverman.
As in, yes, the very same Sarah Silverman who’s now dating Beckinsale’s ex (and Lily’s father) Michael Sheen.
Instead of getting up in arms, though, Beckinsale decided to just roll with it.
“[She’s my] granddaughter,” quipped the 43 year old, ignoring the fact that Silverman is three years her senior.
“We are very proud of her.”
Beckinsale has made no secret of the fact that she’s a huge fan of US comedian Silverman, whom Sheen has been dating for almost three years.
Speaking in an interview with ES Magazine, the actor said: “[Sheen and I] have not been together far longer than we were ever together. But I really love him and like him and we make each other roar with laughter.
“I really love his girlfriend as well, and we are really lucky that we both get on, and Lily gets on great with her.
“Having as many strong females in your teenage daughter’s life as possible is a good thing.”
Sheen himself has also spoken out about his ex’s relationship with his new partner, telling Netflix’s Chelsea Handler that “it helps that she actually likes Sarah more than she likes me”.
He added: “The only way it doesn't work out is that now I have not only Sarah, but also Kate and my daughter Lily, who all just make fun of me and embarrass me at any given point.”
And, for those wondering how Silverman feels about the arrangement, she’s absolutely on board, too.
“[Sheen] and Kate are like brother and sister,” she said, when quizzed about her partner’s relationship with his ex. “I love her, she’s hilarious. She’s really, really cool.”
These guys have definitely got that co-parenting thing nailed, haven’t they?
