Another classic that won’t be watched in the Knightley household any time soon is The Little Mermaid.

“This is the one that I’m quite annoyed about because I really like the film,” she said. “I mean, the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello!”

Stressing that she is not on a Disney Princess witch hunt, Knightley was quick to admit that enforcing the ban hasn’t been easy. “The problem with The Little Mermaid is I love The Little Mermaid,” she said. “That one’s a little tricky, but I’m keeping to it.”

Thankfully, there are some Disney films she will allow in the house: according to Knightley, Finding Dory, Moana and Frozen all pass her test, thanks to their strong, independent female leads.

We have no doubt that, with the new wave of feisty Disney heroines growing, little Edie will undoubtedly be adding to her collection.
