Our favourite psychopathic assassin is back. And she’s wearing superhero pyjamas
“I found Villanelle. I think I might have killed her”
Yes, you heard right – our favourite cat-and-mouse duo are back, as the trailer for the second season of Killing Eve has just dropped. Although it’s barely been six months since we binged the first offering, we’ve all been waiting with bated breath to find out exactly what happens after that cliffhanger of an ending.
Here’s everything we’ve learned from the minute-long clip, but be careful - there are spoilers for the first season ahead.
Villanelle is alive. Just
When we left the most fabulous assassin at the end of series one, she had just been left bleeding on the floor after being stabbed by Eve. And while we all knew that the show couldn’t continue without Jodie Comer’s Villanelle, we were a tad worried how she would recover. But this is a woman who put herself into and got herself out of a maximum security Russian prison and in the trailer, although Villanelle is looking a little worse for wear, she is very much alive.
Villanelle is back
It looks like she’s in England
Which is coincidentally where Eve lives. Looks like she’s after revenge, or perhaps… love? Villanelle has had multiple chances at (ahem) killing Eve, but hasn’t taken them. Maybe her obsession is really more than a psychopathic fixation.
With an English accent
We’ve seen Villanelle pretend to be English before, and we know she’s a master of adopting other personas. But this time, now we know what she’s capable of, her games seem all the more insidious and creepy.
She’s still killing
“What are you looking for?” Asks a man we don’t see. “A Kitchen knife… to stab you with,” replies Villanelle, complete with the glint in her eye and smirk we’ve come to recognise – and worryingly – love.
Eve is becoming darker
In the first series, Eve was presented as a rather bumbling yet competent detective, unsure of what to do in the face of Villanelle. As the show went on, she began to crack, ending ultimately in the stabbing of her nemesis. In this trailer, we see her drinking, ruminating over a knife edge and, crucially, seeking out a door she appears to know Villanelle is behind. We can’t wait to see what season two has in store for her.
Villanelle’s fashion is more eccentric than ever
While we’re not sure anything will ever top that pink Molly Goddard dress, Villanelle’s superhero-themed pyjamas in this trailer surely gives it a run for its money. Special shout out to the fascinating yet terrifying pig costume too. Who knows what’s going on there…
Unfortunately, those of us in the UK will have to wait a lot longer for season two to air, as the lucky Americans get to watch it first from 7 April. Until then, we’ll just be rewatching season one on iPlayer, over and over again.
Killing Eve is due to air on BBC Three later this year
