Just a few weeks ago, Game of Thrones fans all over the world were left overjoyed/heartbroken when they learned that Kit Harington had proposed to his former co-star, Rose Leslie. And, more importantly, that she had said yes, rather than growled a “you know nothing, Jon Snow” at him.

Now, though, Harington has opened up about the moment he got down on one knee – and confessed that he ruined his own proposal plans in his excitement at asking the real-life Ygritte to marry him.

Speaking to Jonathan Ross on his ITV show, Harington explained that he had planned to do something really romantic, but ended up popping the question a tad prematurely.

He shared: '”I did have some plans to do it. I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff, but we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine... and I blew my load early.”

Spotting the expression on Ross’ face, the actor realised that he’d maybe used an awkward turn of phrase and blushed a little.

Then, laughing, Harington added: “Sorry that’s a really bad expression!

“What I meant to say was, I popped my question a bit early. Not blew my load.”

Harington and Leslie – who met on the Game of Thrones set back in 2012 – confirmed their engagement plans last month via an announcement in The Times newspaper.

Listed in the ‘Forthcoming Marriages’ section, it read simply: “The engagement is announced between Kit, youngest son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.”

And, naturally, they want all of their co-stars to join them for a wedding they hope will be more successful than… well, than the ill-fated Red Wedding we saw back in season three of GoT. However, Harington reckons it’ll be more than a little tricky to convince show bosses to shut down the set and give everyone the weekend off for the happy occasion.

“I rang them up and I said, ‘I'm getting married and it’s your fault actually,” he told Ross.

“I was like, ‘You need to factor in a Game of Thrones wedding by the way.’ They [the cast] have all got to be there so the whole thing has got to shut down.

“But there is absolutely no chance of me convincing her of that.”

Whether Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey and co are able to join them or not, it seems likely that there will be more than a few Game of Thrones nods at Leslie and Harington’s nuptials – particularly as the show holds so many special memories for them.

Earlier this year, Harington told L'Uomo Vogue that his best ever memory of the show were the three weeks in Iceland when they filmed the second season in 2012.

“Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love.

“If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”
