Kristen Bell (actor, hero, sloth enthusiast) may be an actual Disney princess, but The Good Place star is better known for being a straight-talking badass – particularly when it comes to matters of the heart. So, when she decided to take time out of her busy schedule and embark on a no-holds-barred Reddit AMA, fans were quick to submit their burning questions – and, yup, they got some seriously frank answers.
Of course, it makes sense that the general populace wanted to know all about her marriage to Dax Shepard. And Bell was all too happy to oblige, addressing everything from her confusing him for Zach Braff at a distance (or “in a dark hallway”), right down to Shepard’s way of dealing with the fact that her one true soulmate Is Craig Ferguson.
“He’s VERY open to anything,” she joked. “He’s a free spirit, and also often my wingman.”
Above all else, though, fans clamoured to know what the secret was to Bell and Shepard’s happy marriage. Or, failing that, the actor’s one piece of advice for any couples hoping to stay “together forever”.
Bell, though, confessed that there’s no magic solution – and marriage is a lot trickier than just nailing one “easy” tip.
Speaking from the heart, she advised those following the thread to just “try hard”.
“It's uncomfortable, but worth it,” she revealed. “Also be vulnerable. No one does it right, so forgive and then be vulnerable again.”
Offering up an example of how she and Shepard work at their marriage, Bell revealed that her husband often checks into a nearby hotel when he’s working on a script.
“Dax writes very quickly,” she said. “He can bang out a script in three weeks, which is insane. He will check in to a hotel in the area to write without the kids bugging him all day, and I take them to visit him every two days or so.”
She added: “He’s phenomenally decisive as a director and usually very stressed, so I have to take good care of him while he’s working.”
Bell wasn’t just dishing out the love advice, though: the Netflix star also made sure to reveal her own tips to a happy life, too. And, again, it’s devastatingly simple: “Go outside, take deep breaths on a walk, WORK OUT, always work out. Get your heart rate up and get the endorphin's you deserve.”
And, y’know, maybe read a Reddit AMA from Kristen Bell.
