To top off Wiig’s and Mumolo’s talent, the film is set to be produced by female-focused production company Gloria Sanchez Productions, which was founded by none other than Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

When Bridesmaids was released back in 2011 it launched Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy to stardom and grossed an eye-watering $288.4 million worldwide.

It even received two Oscar nominations.

But, despite this widespread success (and our crossed fingers), there has never been a sequel. Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar will mark the first time Wiig and Mumolo have collaborated since Bridesmaids’ release.

The project was originally announced in 2014, with Wiig as director. The movie will now go ahead with Lionsgate’s backing.
