Lauren Conrad confirms baby boy’s strong Irish name (via a DIY crafting project)

Lauren Conrad has clearly been taking baby name inspiration from your favourite website, as she’s chosen a strong Irish moniker for her baby boy.

The Hills star welcomed her first child with her husband, William Tell, earlier this week – and she confirmed the news via a kitschy home-made cross-stitch on her Instagram feed.

Featuring embroidered versions of herself, Tell, their pets (because fur-babies are still babies, y’all) and their newborn son, the crafty creation included a message in simple, block letters.

“The Tells,” it read, adding: “And then there were five…”

Conrad captioned the image: “He's here!

“We're so excited to welcome Liam James Tell into the world.”

The name Liam means “strong-willed warrior and protector”, and is a shorter form of the Irish name Uilliam.

This, in turn, originates from the Frankish Willahelm, meaning “helmet of will.”

James, meanwhile, is a classic and increasingly popular boys' name derived from the Hebrew name Jacob. It means “supplanter,” or “he who grasps at the heel”.

Conrad made sure to keep fans up to date with her pregnancy journey via her Instagram feed and her personal website – although her most popular post by far was the one she crafted in response to all those strangers who’d been busy grabbing at her bump without permission.

“I may only be in my second trimester, but I’ve already noticed quite a few etiquette missteps when it comes to how people behave around someone who is expecting,” she said at the time.

Conrad continued: “Even if you are a close friend or family member, it doesn’t hurt to ask first before making a grab for the belly.

“No matter what your relationship to the mama-to-be is, keep in mind that it’s much more pleasant to have someone politely ask if it is OK before groping your midsection.”

Conrad – who tied the knot with Tell in 2014 – also shared her advice for all newlywed couples on how to answer that infuriating, “So, when are you having kids?” question.

“I have found that it's easiest to just have a simple answer ready for when you are asked about children,” she blogged. “That way you aren't blindsided and have to come up with an answer on the spot. If you're comfortable with sharing your personal reasons why, then by all means go for it.

“But if you want to take the more private route, answers like ‘when I'm ready, you'll be the first to know’ or ‘I'll tell you when the time is right’ work too. My answer was always, ‘We are just enjoying being married right now.’ Because, well, that was the truth.”

However, to all those people asking these awkward questions in the first place, Conrad had this to say:

“Keep in mind that the decision to have children (both if and when), is an extremely personal one. And any questioning, pressure, or even hinting about it usually just makes the couple uncomfortable.

“You never know if someone may be privately struggling with fertility or has suffered through a recent miscarriage.”
