Reason 56317 why we love Lizzo: she knows exactly what to do when the press tries to draw her into another couple’s relationship drama.
Let us count the ways we love Lizzo. Musical genius, body positivity warrior, fearless leader of the sisterhood whose superpower in this world of increasingly dark news is spreading pure, unbounded joy. To be honest, even the fact that she owns a flute named Sasha in homage to Beyoncé is reason alone to be a fan.
So whilst it wasn’t exactly a surprise when we discovered that 2019’s breakout artist refuses to be drawn into any romantic drama, we were pretty happy nonetheless to be presented with yet another reason to love Lizzo.
In a new interview with with Australian show The Project, the singer, rapper and flautist revealed that she’s open for looking for love down under after getting over her “evil Gemini ex”.
The host, Carrie Bickmore, then noted that there were “a lot of great Geminis Down Under,” to which the singer agreed that she’d totally be down for dating a Hemsworth, seeing as she’s about to embark on an Australian tour.
“All right! Turn up! I’m ready!” Lizzo replied. “I’m going to find a Hemsworth cousin. I’m going to find the Hemsworth younger brother and see what’s up.”
Bickmore then mentioned that Liam Hemsworth is now single, following the news of his separation with Miley Cyrus after less than a year of marriage. But Lizzo quickly shut down the possibility of pursuing Cyrus’ ex-husband.
“Oh I’m not messing with Miley’s man,” she replied. “I need my own Hemsworth.”
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” a representative explained. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and their careers.
Earlier in the week, Hemsworth also shared a message on Instagram refuting all quotes attributed to him about the separation.
Sharing a picture of a beautiful sunset he wrote: “Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
While our hearts may be bruised over the end of Hemsworth and Cyrus’ romance, we’ll happily take Lizzo’s talent for lifting our spirits, even in the face of a pop culture crisis. Keep doing you, Lizzo.
