Pop star Madonna took part in a game of word association on Buzzfeed this week, where she was asked to write down the first word that came to her mind when she read a particular word.

Under 'Crocs', she wrote "effective", under 'Instagram' she wrote "time consuming" and under the vegetable kale she wrote the word "gay".

Her fans took to the comments section under the article to express their disappointment in her seemingly negative use of the word, with one writing, "Saying kale is ‘gay’ is meant to convey that she doesn’t like it, so it is an insult”.

Other fans wrote, “I am SO TIRED of people using ‘gay’ in a negative context,” and "I am surprised she is using the word "gay" as an insult. I thought she was more sensitive than that".
