Madonna has spoken out about her fall at the Brit awards, describing it as “a horrible nightmare” and saying “I didn’t hurt my butt. I hurt my head”.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show which was recorded on Thursday evening, the singer, 56, spoke of the incident which saw a wardrobe malfunction cause her to fall backwards during her performance at the finale of the the BRIT Awards on Wednesday 25 February in London.

“I like to be amazing, I rehearse and rehearse so when I do a show it is effortless and I create magic. I did the opposite, I actually created a horror show.”

She explained a last minute request from the awards ceremony organisers caused the dance routine to change just before she took to the stage. “I was thrown a wrench at the beginning of the performance. I was asked to start much further back and so I had to walk further.”

“I'm a creature of habit. I rehearse everything, everything, everything,” she added.

“Everyone was worried my cape was going to slide off, so they tied it really tight around my neck. So here I am marching in like the queen, I got to the top of the stairs and I pulled the silky string and it wouldn't come undone.”
