The storyline plays out over a series of tantalizingly enigmatic scenes that are threatening in a way that's hard to define. There's a sequence, repeated throughout the film, of a spider crawling up Mia's leg. And a motif of her opening a freezer to discover unknown horrors. The lines between reality and imagination are blurred, making the slow-burning plot all the more sinister.

Mia's character is mesmerising; she's at once oddly childish and unnerving. It's essentially a coming-of-age drama, albeit with a very dark twist.

When we meet with Mia to discuss the film, she says she revelled in playing such a sinister character, branding it "the most dangerous role I've ever played."

She also relished the opportunity of working with Nicole on the movie, describing her fellow Australian actress as a mentor-like figure who was "very sweet, kind and open about her experience of working on film."
