Proving that she will always live by her mantra of ‘they go low, we go high’, Michelle went on to explain that she truly believes in her country’s right to a democratic vote – and explained that, regardless of her misgivings about the new President-elect, she is willing to stand by the public’s decision.

“I think anything that I felt about the election, I had said – and I stand by it,” she said. “This is our democracy, and this is how it works, and so we are ready to work with the next administration to make sure that they are as successful as they can be. Because that’s what’s good for this country.”

The First Lady has previously left no one in doubt about her feelings on Trump. “Here I am out on the campaign trail in an election where we have consistently been hearing hurtful, hateful language about women,” she said during a rally in New Hampshire, USA.

“Language that has been painful for so many of us, not just as women, but as parents trying to protect our children and raise them to be caring, respectful adults, and as citizens who think our nation’s leaders should meet basic standards of human decency.”

She continued: “The fact is that, in this election, we have a candidate for president of the United States who over the course of his lifetime, and the course of this campaign, has said things about women that are so shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today.”
