All hail Ariel Winter.

After proudly displaying her breast reduction scars on the red carpet earlier this year, the Modern Family actress has now written an empowering essay on body confidence, her inspirations and how she has tackled growing up in the public eye.

Brilliantly beginning with the line, "My favorite body part of mine is my butt", the essay is an unapologetic tour of the 18-year-old's journey to self acceptance.

Writing for US news site Today, Winter said, "I know that people probably don’t always pick their butt. But I do! I’ve always liked big butts and I’ve always been proud of having one."

However it hasn't always been easy for the star, who plays geeky Alex Dunphy in the hit sitcom, to love her body.

"It's been a long journey to being able to find confidence, honestly," she wrote. "I started out on the show when I was 11 years old and I was completely flat-chested. Pretty much overnight, I transformed into what I felt like was a completely different person.

"It was really hard for me accept a lot of the criticism I faced online. First, I was getting criticism for being completely flat everywhere, and then I started getting criticism for filling out. I kind of felt like I couldn’t win at all."

Winter, who opted to have breast reduction surgery last summer, has previously written about her decision to go under the knife and explained why she felt it necessary for the public to see her scars.

“It's important to talk about it because there are young girls suffering like I did, but there shouldn't be a stigma about it,” she told People back in February.

After going from a 32F to a 34D, the actress received criticism for showing her scars on the red carpet of the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. Following the criticism, she took to Twitter to write, “Guys, there is a reason I didn't make an effort to cover up my scars! They are part of me and I'm not ashamed of them at all.”

In the essay, she added, "I got it because I needed it. I needed it, I wanted it, I feel better about myself with it. I feel like I’m the way I’m supposed to be."

Winter also wrote that she struggled to accept her body after coming under so much scrutiny from the public, but that inspirational role models including fellow Modern Family star Sofia Vergara helped her to ignore the criticism.

"I was insecure for a long time, and then I got to a point where I had a lot of really wonderful role models," she wrote. "I had Sofia Vergara, for one thing. Growing up working with her was amazing because I got to learn from how confident she was in her body, and with her curves."

The star also said that she hoped to be a role model for other women.

"It feels really amazing to be able to pay it forward," she wrote. "I want to be able to be that hero for someone else."
