Actress Naomi Watts shares a beautiful Instagram post on the 10th anniversary of Heath Ledger’s death.

Naomi Watts has paid tribute to her former partner Heath Ledger and “beautiful soul” in an emotional social media post.

Taking to Instagram, Watts wrote:

“Thinking about this beautiful soul today. 10 years ago he left this world. He was a true original.

“Heart always on his sleeve, with the most powerful charisma, strength, humour and talent. I will never forget his gentle spirit.”

In 2008, the actor – known for his roles in 10 Things I Hate About You and Brokeback Mountain – died from an overdose.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger starred together in Brokeback Mountain in 2005.

Ledger and Watts may have only dated for two years – from 2002 to 2004 - but remained good friends following the split.

The actress went on to marry Liev Schreiber, while Ledger went on to date Michelle Williams: the pair have a daughter together, Matilda (now aged 11).

Social media users have also shared their condolences too, saying:

“Such an exceptional man, and a heartbreaking loss,” one user wrote.

“Truly amazing, truly missed,” another user wrote.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who is a godparent to Matilda, also remembered his friend, telling E! News:

“I think Heath meant a lot to a lot of people, the people who were fans and the people who saw his work and were moved by his work and the people who knew him as a person.

“He was just an incredible force and is still missed.”
