A host of male Hollywood stars have participated in a new anti-rape public service announcement commissioned by the White House.

In the video, Daniel Craig, Benicio Del Toro, Steve Carell, presenter Seth Meyers, as well as Vice President Joe Biden and President Obama all come together to condemn sexual assault.

Statistics in the US currently state that 1 in 9 teenage girls will be forced to have sex and 1 in 10 will be hurt on purpose by someone they're dating.

Over the past few years, some appalling cases have come to light, such as the Steubenville high school rape case that occurred in 2012, when a girl who was incapacitated on alcohol was attacked by her fellow students.

Another shocking figure is that 1 in 5 young women will be a victim of sexual assault when they attend college.

This video is a welcome change, as various anti-rape adverts have come under fire in previous years for 'victim blaming', such as the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's campaign in 2011.

Whereas this shifts the onus away from the victim, and highlights that everyone has to be responsible for their own actions.

Vice President Joe Biden has been a staunch supporter of ending violence against women, and created the National Domestic Violence Hotline in the Violence Against Women Act in 1994.

He also offered a grant of £290,000 ($500,000) from the Department of Justice for the National Dating Abuse Helpline, which helps teens who are struggling with relationship abuse.

While this video deals with the problems in the US, the statistics in the UK are just as worrying, with the ONS reporting in 2013 that 1 in 5 women (aged 16 - 59) has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 16.
