Olivia Munn is our fantasy best friend for many reasons. Not only is she, obviously, supremely talented and hilariously funny, but she’s also a vocal feminist and has repeatedly proven to look out for her fellow female actors.

When she was rumoured to have been dating Chris Pratt following his separation from Anna Faris, Munn took to social media to not only leak her own messages to Faris which sensitively reassured her the press were mistaken, but wrote an inspiring caption on her Instagram stories to make it clear that “women respect and love each other a lot more than some people like to think.”

And now, the X Men: Apocalypse star has gone and done it again. This time, she’s reached out to support actor Kelly Marie Tran who recently wiped her Instagram of all posts, reportedly because of abuse she has been receiving over her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Tran had a huge role in the 2017 film, starring as Rose Tico, a mechanic turned Resistance fighter. But shortly after the film was released, Tran (who is the first woman of colour to take a central role in the Star Wars films) started receiving racial and sexist abuse online.

Although she has not confirmed if her absence from social media is related to the trolling she has received from fans about her role in the film, Munn seems to think it is, and has posted a message of support for Tran saying that she’s “proud” of the actor for “taking a stand.”

Writing on her Instagram stories last night (6 June), Munn said: “As an Asian American actress myself, I am SO PROUD of Kelly Marie Tran for forging a path in Hollywood, which is extremely hard because it’s not a path that already exists for us. Not only did she find a way, but she found it all the way to STAR WARS!

“She is ridiculously talented, brave and gorgeous. I think it’s interesting how her character Rose Tico in #TheLastJedi allowed us to see how widespread the First Order’s venom has become, reaching out to the farthest points of the galaxy. And now today, Kelly is showing us how poisonous people can corrode so many things right here on Earth.”

Munn continued: “I’m proud of Kelly for taking a stand and saying enough to that bulls**t. But I hope that if she ever wants to come back to social media, she does, because she deserves to be here and we need more people like her putting good energy out in the world.”

Munn followed her show of girl power with another two posts, one simply reading: “Don’t trip over the haters, walk over them.”

While the second tagged Tran, saying: “In order for someone to bring you down, they gotta be able to reach you. And at the rate you’re killing’ it in Hollywood @kellymarietran they’ll never touch you.”

We can’t know for sure Tran’s reasons for removing her social media posts, but what we do know, is that we are so very here for Munn’s supportive attitude and passion for lifting other women in her industry up. Considering Hollywood is a place famed for pitting female actors against each other, this is a simply beautiful thing to see.
