Kate Winslet's tears of joy at Leonardo DiCaprio's triumph - and other winners from the 2016 Oscars

It was Leonardo DiCaprio's time in the spotlight last night. The actor finally walked away with his very first Oscar, for Best Actor in The Revenant, after losing out four times previously at the Academy Awards.

The actor was composed as he took to the stage but his Titanic co-star Kate Winslet couldn't hide her teary delight, welling up with emotion as the star received a standing ovation from an audience packed with Hollywood heavyweights:

Over in the Best Actress category,  Brie Larson saw off stiff competition from Jennifer Lawrence, Charlotte Rampling and Saoirse Ronan to bag a golden statue for her performance in Room - the adaptation of Emma Donoghue's best-selling thriller novel.

Alicia Vikander landed the honours for Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl while Mark Rylance triumphed in the Best Supporting Actor category for Bridge of Spies.

And journalistic crime drama Spotlight was the dark horse of the night, bringing home the goods for the most coveted award - Best Picture. Come toast the winners from all the major categories in last night's Oscars, below.
