Pamela Anderson in UN bid

Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has her sights set on a new goal - one which has nothing to do with her somewhat chequered acting career.

The 44-year-old has unveiled her ambition to follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Celine Dion by becoming a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations.

"Since I started in this business I’ve wanted to be a goodwill ambassador to the UN," she is quoted as telling contactmusic.com. "I’ve always thought this was a romantic, interesting element of stardom, going back to the days of Audrey Hepburn."

Pamela is a devoted animal rights activist and has fronted several campaigns for Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

However, the actress said she was disappointed not to be quizzed more often about more serious global issues.

"I'd ask the questions I never get asked – my political views, views on art, culture, the world," she said. "Global issues that I have strong opinions about."

There has been no official response yet from the UN.
