The British singer, 22, would rule to the tune of Nineties mix tapes and dine on a menu of McDonald’s Big Macs

The first thing I’d do if I was crowned queen is…

Cure breast cancer. It’s a cause close to my heart because my mum [Vera] suffers from it. But if you want something lighter, I’d create a pink politician. They’d have to wear pink because I think [parliament] needs a bit of colour.

Say hello to my king…

Michael Jackson. I’ve always been a big fan but I didn’t really understand how amazing he was until I got older. When you start to understand his music, it’s like, “Whoa. What was he drinking? What was he breathing?” P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) is my favourite song. He’s an inspiration to me, and the whole world, because he was himself throughout his whole career. He wrote whatever he wanted to write and wore whatever he wanted to wear. I really admire anyone with that sort of confidence. You don’t have to be famous; it’s really admirable in anyone.

And now meet Kyle, my royal stylist.

Luckily my friend Kyle [De’volle], who’s been my best friend since I was young, loves clothes so he’s the perfect person to help me. Nobody knows me better than him. We had no money so we used to go down to Portobello Market and make clothes. Now it’s just the same thing, but on a bigger scale.

It’s time to move Buckingham Palace… Is it possible to have my castle on a beach?

I love the beach but if I’m ruling the country, I guess I can’t really be on the beach away from the rest of the country. I like to chill out with my headphones on listening to music. I usually get burnt because I sleep in the sun. My favourite beach so far is in the Dominican Republic; it’s beautiful, with fresh fish, clean water and white sand. But I’m going to Thailand soon so that might all change.

Music, I couldn’t live without it.

It’s just the best thing ever. I go on YouTube to watch everyone I love, like Blondie’s live shows. And Diana Ross [at the World Music Awards 1996] when she had that blonde wig and red suit on and goes into the audience and sits on Michael Jackson’s lap. I just browse away and get lost.

This queen loves her pyjamas.

My perfect day off involves waking up and literally just brushing my teeth. And that’s it. Watching TV, eating and staying in my pyjamas all day. I usually get Chinese food or McDonald’s. I always get a Big Mac; you have to, why do people get all those little decorations like chicken nuggets? The Big Mac is the classic. It’s what made McDonald’s McDonald’s. So if you’re not going all the way, don’t go there at all.

I’d be the queen of Kosovo too.

I lived in Kosovo until I was one and my grandparents, aunties and cousins are still there. They’re living in a country which is worshipping what I’m doing and I don’t know what it’s like because I’m not there. My cousins call me up and say, “Rita, you don’t understand, they have shops named after you.” I went there and felt like Princess Diana, I’m not even joking. It was the best reception I’ve ever received. And they crowned me ambassador, which was a great honour [in 2012 Rita was declared an honorary ambassador for her contribution to improving the image of Kosovo].

Nineties hip-hop would be on the royal playlist.

I’d make everyone relax, have a drink and bounce to some Nineties hip-hop. I have parties at my house and play A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, Method Man, Mary J Blige, Common, Mos Def, Biggie Smalls (of course), Tupac, TLC and Destiny’s Child, who are coming back so I’m really excited. It’s literally all we do; battle on who has the newest Nineties mix tapes. It’s all about the mix.

I’d be mates with Madonna.

She could heal me; I’d go to yoga with her so I feel like I’d get really healthy. I tried Pilates once and it just didn’t work. I completely fell over, I don’t know how people do it. I’ve never met Madonna but if I did, I’d be nervous and just stare in awe. I’d probably say nothing and she would be like, “What is this weirdo doing?”

Get ready for the royal tour!

I’d take my king Michael and my advisor, who would probably be my sister Elena, even though she’s crazier than me. I’d bring my dog, that I don’t actually have yet. He’s my imaginary big English bulldog called Biggie. I have two goldfish, called Will and Jada Smith, but I don’t think you can walk around with a fish bowl. It would be a big crew; I’d take my band, in case I want to jam out, and Boris Johnson, because I think he’s funny.

Honesty would be my queenly policy.

I don’t like it when people don’t tell the truth. If you don’t like something, just say you don’t like it. I always try to be really honest, with myself first. I used to lie to myself and pretend that I like things but really they’re rubbish. Now I think there’s just no time.
