The subject of second chances in the wake of the #MeToo movement has been widely discussed recently, thanks in part to the attempted comebacks of men such as comedian Louis CK.

Previously, Wright had only commented on the allegations against Spacey to say that she “didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.” Speaking to the Today show in July, she said that she hadn’t spoken to the actor since he left House of Cards.

In her interview with Porter, Wright said she still had not spoken to Spacey. “No,” she replied, when asked if she wanted to reach out to him.

“He’ll reach out when he’s ready, I’m sure. I think that’s the way it should go.”

When asked if she felt sorry for Spacey, Wright said that she felt “sorry for anybody whose life is in the public arena”, something she described as “a nightmare”. However, she emphasised that this didn’t mean she condoned or excused his actions.

“I believe everyone’s personal life should be personal. Positive, negative, neutral, whatever – I don’t believe it should be anybody’s business,” she said.

“But I’m not talking about this [#MeToo] movement. I’m talking about media. The exposure. It’s an awful feeling.”

In July, it was revealed that Scotland Yard is currently investigating six claims that Spacey sexually assaulted men in the UK in 1996, 2008 and 2013, during his tenure as artistic director at London’s Old Vic theatre.
