Sainsbury's have just launched their new Christmas advert, and yes, you're going to need a whole box and a half of tissues for this one.

The three-minute long video depicts a real scene from World War One in 1914 when German and British soldiers held a series of unofficial ceasefires over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, called the Christmas truce. Soldiers from both sides even walked across to no-man's land to exchange gifts and food.

The supermarket chain, in sponsored_longform with the Royal British Legion, have recreated this scene inspired by real events from 100 years ago, and starts with soldiers from both sides singing Silent Night in their own language, with the lyrics cleverly switching from English and then into German.

One brave soldier then pokes his head out of trenches and proceeds to make his way into the middle of no-man's land. Other soldiers take his lead and both German and British sides come together for this poignant moment, talking to each other, sharing tales of their loves they've left behind and wishing each other merry Christmas.

True to the story, they also begin to play football, with the young men all cheering each other on, despite knowing they will at some point have to return to the trenches and begin shooting at each other as they become enemies once again.

The chocolate also featured in the advert will be available to buy from Sainsbury's for 50p and all profits will be given to the Royal British Legion.
