Farage represents quite a departure from the show's last high-profile guest stars - Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

The supermodel pair appeared alongside Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher in a fundraising edition of Gogglebox in October, as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser.

Moss, 40, is apparently a big fan of the cult hit show, which allows viewers a voyeuristic glimpse into other peoples' living rooms as they watch TV.

Since it first hit our screens in 2013, Gogglebox has drawn legions of fans with its hilarious, moving and above all compulsive snapshot into the lives of people watching TV together.

Last year its ratings doubled from 800,000 to 1.5 million, as it became one of the most tweeted-about shows of 2013 with remake rights sold to China, Ukraine and the US (where it is called The People's Couch).

Its addictive episodes have made minor celebrities out of its subjects, including Steph and Dom, the wise-cracking Siddiqui family from Derby; sweet old married Scouse couple Leon and June and best friends Sandy and Sandra from Brixton.

It's not yet known what will emerge out of this latest episode pitting Farage against the Parkers; although the latter admit they were drinking for more than 12 hours by the end of one Gogglebox filming session, laying the groundwork for what could be an interesting and potentially explosive broadcast (especially as Steph is a former employee of the European Commission and therefore likely to quiz Farage on his anti-EU views).
