Watch as man is reunited with stolen dog after eight-year separation

Published

A man has been reunited with his dog after eight long years and the video of their reunion is the loveliest thing you will see all week.

The Miami Herald reported how the Rottweiler puppy, named Duke, went missing from Joshua Edwards’ garden in South Florida in 2007.

Edwards was devastated and spent six months knocking on doors looking for the puppy, finally giving up, believing him to have been stolen.

But in a wonderful twist of fate last week a passer-by found Duke, now 9 years old, wandering the streets alone and took him to an animal hospital.

“He was a sweet dog and needed help”, said Maria Elena Cartaya.

Tamiami Animal Hospital found Duke’s microchip and traced it to his owner.

Edwards and Duke were reunited on Tuesday and Duke has since been taken home to re-join the family, now consisting of three other dogs and two young children.

The video shows Edwards waiting to be reunited with Duke, saying: “I never thought I’d see him again.”

Edwards’ wife, Melissa, who never met Duke, said she “never would have thought” this could have happened. “The dog meant so much to him.” She said.

When they finally meet again, the bond the two share is visible, as both dog and owner are ecstatic and emotional (as are we after watching it); Duke panting and rolling around on his back and Edwards crying tears of joy.

“I think he knew who I was straight away,” said Edwards. “He still remembers, good boy.”

Watch the video below. We challenge you to hold back the tears (we couldn't)
