Stylist were recently joined for a web chat special with Michelle Yeoh, star of Oscar-winning movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and upcoming biopic The Lady, based on the life of Aung San Suu Kyi.

Born in Malaysia, Michelle gained fame by going toe-to-toe against her male counterparts in many action and martial arts movies. She is celebrated for performing her own stunts and fight scenes, wowing audiences with her sense of agility and beauty.

Michelle made her film debut in Owl vs. Dumbo in 1984. After announcing an early retirement, she returned to the movies in 1992, opposite Jackie Chan in Police Story 3: Supercop. A string of films followed, including 1997's Stunt Woman, where she fell 18 feet while jumping from a bridge and landed on her head. Though injured, she managed to complete the film - much to the amazement of her doctors.

Also in 1997, Michelle appeared in Bond flick Tomorrow Never Dies, playing a Chinese agent posing as a journalist opposite Pierce Brosnan. In 2000, she achieved her biggest exposure to date with Ang Lee's martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In 2002, Michelle formed her own production company, Mythical Films, and in 2005 starred in Memoirs of a Geisha and Reign of Assassins in 2010.

This year has seen her take on yet another seminal role portraying Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in The Lady (pictured above). Released on December 30, The Lady was three years in the making. It is directed by Luc Besson and sees Michelle tackle the peaceful quest of the woman who is at the core of Burma’s democracy movement.
