In a bid to help combat high divorce rates, politicians in Mexico City have proposed that couples decide the length of their marriage before tying the knot.
The contract, which would have a minimum duration of two years, would provide arrangements for the eventuality of a non-renewal, such as how children and assets would be dealt with.
Despite facing fierce criticism from the Catholic church, the bill is gathering considerable support and may come into effect before the end of the year.
