At some point, your friends have probably accused you of being totally oblivious to what somebody's trying to tell you. But spare a thought for Claire Bramley, who didn’t notice that her boyfriend had proposed to her 148 times - through the medium of the selfie.
Bramley’s now-fiancé, Ray Smith, spent five months taking photos of the couple together, secretly flashing a sign reading ‘Will you marry me?’ in each one, before finally proposing on Christmas Day.
Smith told the Mirror that he'd been planning on proposing during a hot air balloon ride, but that plan was scuppered in June when the couple discovered that Bramley, 33, was pregnant. After researching ideas online, he came up with the idea of a string of secret proposal selfies, which he then compiled into a (very sweet) YouTube video.
The images track the couple’s daily lives for almost half a year, from hanging out at home to dinner dates and days out in their hometown of Grimsby. In time-honoured novelty proposal tradition, Smith, 38, also roped in the couple’s family, friends and co-workers to help. Our favourite, by far, are these absolute heroes:
Presuming that her boyfriend was just documenting her pregnancy, Bramley didn’t suspect a thing. (Quickly, though - have we inadvertantly discovered the only person in the world who never asks to see a photo of themselves after it's been taken?! We're deeply, deeply impressed by Bramley's lack of vanity.)
Smith finally showed Bramley the video on Christmas morning. “I said yes straight away,” she told the Mirror. "I didn't need to think about it. I got a bit emotional, but I am pregnant after all.”
