Over the past few months, Zoe Saldana has made a point of speaking out about issues close to her heart – including the gender pay gap and the controversial result of the US presidential election.
And, in her recent interview in early January with Mario Lopez on Extra, Saldana spoke candidly about her crazy life with her and husband Marco Perego’s twin sons, two-year-olds Cy and Bowie.
“These freaking boys can sit on these dirty diapers for hours, and the house is stinking up and you’re like, ‘Can I change your diaper?’ and they go, ‘Nooooooooo!’” she told them.
Despite being so vocal about the trials and tribulations of motherhood, however, Saldana chose to remain quiet about the fact that she was pregnant with her third child.

So the 38-year-old actor’s latest Instagram post – confirming the child’s birth and name – came as something of a surprise to her fans.
Sharing a photograph of her newborn baby son, Saldana wrote: “Marco and I are elated to share the news of the birth of our son Zen.
“We couldn’t feel more blessed with the new addition to our family. #threeboys... oh boy!"
The name Zen is an intriguing one; according to experts, it is derived from the Japanese on'yomi reading of the Chinese word chán (禅), which is, in turn, derived from the Sanskrit word dhyāna.
It is thought to mean “absorption, meditative state”.
Saldana and Perego tied the knot in July 2013 in a secret wedding outside of London – and the actor later confirmed that her husband had taken her last name.
“I tried to talk him out of it,” she told InStyle in an interview published in 2015. “If you use my name, you're going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.”
But Italian painter and sculptor Perego’s response was perfect: “Ah Zoe, I don't give a shit.”
The couple, who also bestowed the Saldana name upon their children, have come a long way together since becoming parents, Saldana said.
“Since I've been with Marco, I've been lowering my guard,” she explained. “Finally when we had our boys I looked at my husband and I realised: I was meant for you and you were meant for me.”
Saldana added: “I've always felt comfortable around men as long as they were friends.
“Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover. I don't want to be separate. I want my church. I want to live inside the religion of our own little family."
