Roman Holiday

Giving a line-up of things to do in this stunning city is a tough call. A good place to start would be the Tridente area that houses rustic antique stores alongside the likes of Roberto Cavalli on the nearby via del Corso. While the Colosseum is an obvious port of call, don’t let that distract from the small piazza’s, such as Mattei – brightly-hued with a truly endearing turtle fountain at its centre.

Across the river, Trastevere is the romantic Rome of everyone’s imagination. Think cobbled streets, punctuated by Roman statues and the occasional hawker’s cry. Heading northwards, Borgo is a good place to pick up a quirky figurine of the Pope, while In Prati, via Cola di Rienzo offers up an abundance of street food stalls selling everything from cones of fresh risotto to slabs of fresh pizza.

To escape the city bustle, head to the Eurogarden Rome Hotel; surrounded by lush garden, filled with bougainvillea’s, this is the ultimate oasis from the madding crowds. Equally, the Panama Garden Hotel is next to Rome’s Villa Ada Park and only a quick amble to the stunning Piazza Barberini Square. For a truly traditional stay, the aptly-named Rose Garden Palace – its rose garden is a triumph – is everything you’d hoped for and more.

2 nights at the 3* Eurogarden Roma, from £145 per person, travelling 01 September – 30 September. Includes return Euro Traveller flights from London Gatwick or Heathrow and accommodation with breakfast.
