Their five inch height difference is clearly not something the couple is phased by, nor should they be, but van Dijk says she’s happy to be a role model for taller women. “I hear from so many people who meet people they connect with but feel like they can’t start a relationship, so I just want to show those people that height doesn’t dictate compatibility,” she adds.

“We’ve come so far in putting superficial relationship norms and expectations to one side, but height and height differences are things that still linger,” she continues. “We accept that not everyone is going to have six-pack abs, yet we’re still hung up about how tall they are.” Indeed, the outdated patriarchal idea that women should be small and ‘dainty’ in comparison to their male partners remains, but van Dijk is hopeful that the discourse around partner height differences is shifting, thanks in part to the likes of Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz, Tina Fey and Gwendoline Christie, who are all high-profile examples of women who are taller than their spouses: “There’s definitely a lot more open public discussion about height, and Zendaya and Tom Holland’s relationship in particular has opened up a lot of conversations and made people a bit more accepting.

“Ultimately, my advice to other tall women is not to let height requirements hold you back from finding the right person for you. To miss out on someone who could make you so happy simply because of their height feels like a huge shame.”
