Lottie, a 27-year-old journalist in London, is similarly resistant to men of certain professions and uses LinkedIn to see what roles they’ve done in the past. Surveyors, estate agents, recruiters and bankers are all red flags for Lottie. Again, highly paid jobs aren’t that attractive.

“Money doesn’t hurt but I find with men – less so with women – that the ratio of assholes goes up the higher paid the industry,” she says.

Besides ensuring that you aren’t going to get stuck on a date with a man who won’t stop talking about mortgage rates, LinkedIn can help women verify that someone is who they say they are.

Emily now always checks out her potential dates on LinkedIn, and says: “If you’re meeting someone off a dating app, then they are just a stranger and often there are absolutely no checks in place. It makes me feel safer just to know who somebody is.”

Jessica Alderson, co-founder of the dating app So Syncd, thinks LinkedIn offers more than just a career history and a chance to connect with people who align with your professional ambitions.

“Those who have struggled to find compatible matches on traditional dating apps may turn to LinkedIn for a more targeted pool of potential partners,” she says. “LinkedIn content is becoming more personal and informal, with people sharing personal updates, achievements and even details about their relationship status.”

While no one wants to receive a flirty message from a boss, which remains entirely inappropriate, it seems LinkedIn is becoming a way to do your research on a person you’re already considering dating. Something to think about with your next match?
