How did you feel when you got that text?
Mostly relieved. I had lent this ex quite a large chunk of money and been trying to get it back, predominantly so I could just move on and stop being angry about everything that happened. I was still angry about a lot of stuff, but at least I would finally get the money back and could move forward without that in the back of my mind.

Prior to that last text, I was so angry. I’d seen on Instagram that he was very publicly in a relationship with someone… after years of being unable or unwilling to do that with me. If I scroll up in the chain, it’s painful. I was obviously holding on to the hurt and the rejection but had focused all that energy on the injustice of him owing me money.

Did you reply?
Yep, confirmed the remaining money owed, and then that was it. No communication since.

How long did the relationship last?
I’m not entirely sure how to define the length. We were never ‘official’, more so in a weird situationship where he slept at mine most nights but we never actually defined each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. This went on for almost three years.

We met through work. He started at the office and there was an immediate attraction, then we started getting lunch together, then going out for drinks, and then started being physical.
