Comedian Kemah Bob is part of Stylist Live LUXE Sunday Papers talk on November 10th and you should be there.
A Texas born-and-bred stand-up comedian, writer, improviser and drag king, Kemah now keeps herself busy in London hosting a range of clubs, radio shows and podcasts. She has appeared in shows across the BBC and Channel 4 and is a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. ‘Rising star’ doesn’t even come close…
Her material centers Black cultural identity, mental health, sexuality and gender and effectively uses comedy as a tool for enlightenment and empowerment. She’s joining our Sunday Papers talk at Stylist Live LUXE and if you need any more convincing to be there, here are five reasons we love her.
1. She creates and shares platforms
Kemah curates and hosts The FOC IT UP! (femmes of colour) comedy club which celebrates and centres the perspectives of people of colour in comedy that identify as women, non-binary or more feminine-of centre.
2. She’s a Beyonce stan
Hailing from Houston, Texas, now based in London, Bob says she is proud of drinking the same tap water as Beyonce (that is if Beyonce drinks tap water).
3. She killed her Ted Talk
Her TedTalk “What Would Kanye do?” Delivers a brilliant discussion on mental health, bipolar disorder and her own way out of the dark.
4. She regularly co-hosts The Guilty Feminist Podcast
We’re not fan-girling, you’re fan-girling.
5. She’s part of an open dialogue on mental health
Aside from in her own shows and her Ted Talk, Kemah was featured in the London College of Communications project Mental. The programme explores mental health disorders through stand-up comedy and defiantly worth a watch.
